At Brass Eye Center, our mission is to help our patients maintain crystal clear vision throughout life, and regular eye exams are one of the most important parts of that process. Preventive eye exams can help us catch vision problems before they grow serious, providing the best chance at successful treatment. As your Clifton Park and Latham eye doctors, we strive to make eye care easier for you – so here are a few simple tips on preparing for an eye exam.

What to Do Before an Eye Exam

During an eye exam, your Clifton Park eye doctor will be doing most of the work – but putting in a little bit of preparation can help you make the most of your appointment. One of the biggest things to consider before an eye exam is if you've noticed any changes in your vision. Have you experienced any instances of blurred vision, poor night vision, double vision, or flashes of light since your last exam? Do you find it harder to read at short or long distances? Equally important is to consider your recent medical history. Have you had any procedures done that might be affecting your vision? Have you experienced any health issues with your eyes?

Answering these questions beforehand can help make your appointment more efficient, and knowing what to talk about ahead of time ensures you won't miss anything important you wanted to talk about. In addition to answering these questions yourself, don't forget to ask plenty of questions to your eye doctor. Discuss whether or not your vision is changing, if your contact lens or glasses prescription is still accurate, what options you have for improving your vision, and any other questions that seem relevant to you. And again, if there's a topic you particularly want to talk about, don't hesitate to write it down – coming in with notes will help ensure you take care of everything during your appointment.
