Our eye surgeons are trained in the most advanced surgical techniques, allowing us to treat a number of vision problems, including cataracts. Our eye care clinic in Latham offers high quality cataract surgery to ensure that each and every one of our patients can see clearly.

What Are Cataracts?

In order for a person to have clear vision and see normally, light must be able to pass freely through the optical structures of the eye. Two of these structures are particularly important because they bend the light so it will focus on the retina. These two structures are the cornea and the crystalline lens. Both of these structures must be clear in order for you to have clear vision.

A cataract is the clouding of the crystalline lens in the eye; the lens is what turns into a cataract. This can cause a person’s vision to become blurry. This clouding usually occurs slowly, though it’s possible that it can happen quickly, especially after suffering trauma to the eye. Cataracts aren’t painful, though they can cause many detrimental symptoms including:

  • Blurry vision
  • Glare while driving or reading
  • Duller colors
  • Fewer details
  • Changes in your glasses prescription
  • Possible double vision

Who Is Affected By Cataracts?

The people most likely to be affected by cataracts in Latham are those who are older. Cataracts are a natural and normal effect of aging. The older you get, the more likely you are to develop cataracts. Around the age of 40, most patients will begin to experience at least minor cases of the visual effects that result from the changes in the crystalline lens – even those people who have previously had great vision.

How Our Eye Clinic in Latham Treats Cataracts

For this problem to be treated, the cataracts will have to be removed. Our eye surgeons provide the most advanced cataract surgery and the placement of intraocular lenses available anywhere. New advances and techniques have made cataract surgery one of the most successful and life-improving surgical procedures performed; over 95 percent of cataract surgeries improve vision. All of these surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis. At Brass Eye Center, your surgeon performs the preoperative exam, the surgery, and all of your post op visits. You can feel confident knowing you are in great hands for your cataract surgery at our eye care clinic in Latham.
