One of the most common surgeries we specialize in that we offer in our Latham and Clifton Park, NY offices is cataract surgery.

What Is Cataract Surgery?

cataract is the gradual clouding of the eye’s natural lens. This condition will occur in everyone over time, and in over half of all adults over the age of 60. What makes this condition so problematic is that cataracts can cause many symptoms. These symptoms include:

  • Reduced depth perception
  • Diminished color perception
  • Seeing glare in sunlight
  • Worse night vision

Although these symptoms sound serious and problematic, they are actually quite simple to treat with a skilled ophthalmologist. At Brass Eye Center, our doctors are extensively trained in cataract removal and are equipped with technological advances and techniques that will give you the safest and most pain-free vision recovery possible. We offer the latest surgeries and procedures that will remove cataracts and help restore your vision. Virtually all cataract surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis, under topical anesthesia and well over 95% of these surgeries will improve a patient’s vision.

Intraocular Lens Implants

As a routine part of cataract surgery, the eye’s natural lens is removed and replaced with an intraocular lens IOL. This type of surgery is very effective at reducing the need for glasses after cataract surgery. Before IOLs were used, patients with cataracts had to wear special contact lens or very thick eyeglasses in order to see after the natural lenses were removed during surgery. Now, this is no longer necessary!

In the past with standard IOLs, cataract surgery could only correct your vision at a distance, and not fix your astigmatism, which meant you had to wear glasses most of the time after surgery. At Brass Eye Center we are proud to offer standard lenses as well as other options using advanced technology such as multifocal and extended depth of focus lenses, astigmatism correcting IOLs, laser ‘bladeless’ cataract surgery, and the ORA system with Verifeye.

We would be happy to talk with you about any of the following options that you might be a candidate for:

  • Standard/monofocal lens implants for correction of distance OR near vision
  • Catalys femtosecond laser- bladeless cataract surgery with precision computer guided laser
  • Toric Lens implants for astigmatism correction with distance or near focus
  • Multifocal and Extended Depth of Focus Lens implants (with astigmatism correction if needed) for distance and near correction dependent on your lifestyle
  • ORA for real time Guidance and verification for cataract refractive surgery
